Just spent two hours raking leaves and uncovering lovely little flowers-to- be – ah! finally! today’s high was only 44 but it was heavenly. and this was after a hellish week – a death, a resignation, lots of fighting – and this was all at work! tomorrow is easter and we’ll exchange our easter bowls of goodies – photos to come.

Congratulations to Riham!

Dr. Riham defended an amazing dissertation this afternoon and I felt incredibly honored not only to be a witness but to be a member of her committee! An outstanding dissertation written by an equally outstanding woman!

busy week

cold week – current windchill – 19 degrees. very glad it’s thursday – although my calendar indicates back-to-back meetings from 830 on. riham’s dissertation defense is on tuesday and I am very excited to be part of her committee. she has written an amazing dissertation and it is exciting to plug back into feminism and post-structural theory! Her thesis focuses on the activism of Muslim women – see, exciting!

weekend plans – again I am lobbying for aristocats on friday night(!) and i would love to see horton this weekend – there’s a 10am show at the common. our only set plans are to attend the dr. seuss birthday party at the children’s museum on sunday – woo hoo! part of club passim’s culture for kids series i don’t know who rushad eggleston is but I’m sure he’s great!

weekends in the city: sundays

friday – met gretchen at flour for celebratory pots of tea with accompanying poptart – sun shone through the windows – almost spring. friday night movie night – NOT aristocats…daddy brought tarzan home from work — and tarzan it was – i cried when clayton killed kerchak and had to leave the room – don’t ask!

saturday was filled with a torrential downpour and repeated visits to the basement to check for signs of water – not quite the noah’s ark flood they predicted but enough to keep us in the house and away from alex the jester (sad face). jack took a very short nap and we watched 2/3rds of beowulf – hmmmm. it reminded me that when i read beowulf in high school it absolutely terrified me – primal rage, war, etc.

sunday – up early to watch peep (which we also watched on saturday) first part – fog – very fun; second part – mud – even more fun. mud always reminds me of my sister and mud pies on the back ‘patio’ at our house on delmar drive. our soil was pure clay and we threw some black dirt on top of it and grew things – amazing. we left early in the morning and went to the children’s museum. it was cold and windy and COLD(!) but bright and sunny and almost spring. we ran into three kids from jack’s preschool at the museum  – three of his ‘buddies’ and we did make it to the Keeping the Fire in the Dark Moon Times show – co-sponsored by the Peabody Essex Museum.

weekends in the city

up at 4am – gotta love spring:) breakfast meeting with gretchen at flour first thing this am! yes, flour is our second home.

friday night movie night -it’s a toss-up. jack did not want to return lilo and stitch – so, no new netflix dvd this week (beowulf is still waiting patiently for a viewing). we have a copy of the aristocats that it is a yet to be opened birthday gift and we have some movies from my coworker – animated charlotte’s web and the piglet movie. i’m lobbying for the aristocats.

saturday – we are trying to talk jack into alex the jester at coolidge corner – he watched the video and loved it except for the ‘eye part’. he is really into slapstick and goofy, over-the-top gag jokes these days – part of why he loved lilo and stitch.

sunday – Keeping the Fire in the Dark Moon Times at the children’s museum – a Native American dance/music/etc extravaganza. we haven’t been to the children’s museum in a very long time and there just happens to be a second flour about a block away 🙂

however, if the weather is – i’m game for lots of yard work and a trip to titus sparrow park – jack’s favorite playground.
