  1. Hi Mary,

Great photos. I am happy to know you, Ernesto and Jack are doing well. I commend you on your job of documenting Jack’s childhood. Better than keeping baby photo albums! I also like visiting your site for updates on the Pol Sci department. Riham finished! Please extend my congratulations to her.

Pardon if I also use this comment page to tell you what’s up with us. I have 4 research projects (with field work in Leyte and Mindanao, Philippines; and Dili, East Timor) for the year. More running around interviewing military guys and former rebels. Finished my previous research on overseas troop deployment for disaster relief in Jakarta and Aceh (Indonesia), capped by a workshop in Tokyo last January and a monograph publication this October. Bruce equally busy building the food bank here in Iloilo. He went to the San Antonio, Texas (isn’t that where Ernesto originally came from?) and nearby Mexico last month to attend the Global Foodbanking Conference (as Philippine rep!). But, we take a break this summer. We are spending 5 weeks in China (inc. Hongkong/Macau). Teaching in UPV one more year, then off to sabbatical (most probably US by 2009).

Please give my hugs to Jack, and hi to Ernesto.

  2. rosalie – thanks so much for checking out the site. Yes, Riham finished and Rachel Ellett is about to defend! Evgenia defended her thesis this past fall. You are busy – as always! Your current research projects sound very interesting. I would like to hear more about how you are able to turn this into practice/policy/action – because it is such a crucial area. Sabbatical – wonderful! – m
